Last Saturday was such a beautiful day that I decided it would be great day getting my vegetable patch and herb garden up and running. After having spent quite some time in the garden, I realized that I did not have nearly enough space for what I wanted to plant. Having visited many different nurseries I found that buying a vegetable crate was a costly exercise, so I decided I was more than capable of making one myself. It was really a fun and very easy exercise, not to mention it cost a fraction of the price of buying them all ready made. All one needs is two or three inexpensive old wooden palette’s, a few screws and an electric drill or screwdriver to make the job that much easier. I started by designing my veggie boxes and then carefully taking apart the old palette’s. The best part is that you can make the boxes as big or small and any shape you want. Work out where you want to put them and you can build them accordingly. It took 20 minutes to make one, so I made 3. With very little effort, I have doubled the amount of space which I have to plant some great new veggies & herbs. Hopefully in a few months, I will have my own variety of salad leaves, artichokes, peppers, chillies, tomatoes, courgette’s and a variety of fresh herbs. The only problem… my wife will have me making them every weekend now as hand-made Christmas gifts.
