The Pick n Pay stand we braaied some good old Boerewors rolls and cheese burgers, and for the fish lovers, we served batter fish and chips, and crumbed calamari and chips. This year has been the best year as far as sales go. There was some serious braaing over the 10 days.
Source did the catering on behalf of all the Momentum VIP guests who were participating in the various weekend sporting events. In the early hours of the morning, breakfast comprised of assorted muffins, homemade granola pots and some fruit skewers. VIPs could also order a boerewors roll, cheeseburg, crumbed calamari, or beer batter fish. We also made sure that there were delicious snacks available during the daytime. Some of these snacks included biltong, popcorn, vegetable crisps, and a selection of bruschetta and flat breads.
The Pick n Pay Wine Tasting room is really exciting entertainment, and this year is was held on Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th of July. We created a canapé menu that is perfectly paired with 3 different wines from 3 different vinters. Some of the delicious items that were on the pairing menu included mini tacos with black bean, corn, tomato, coriander and tricolore dip, some smoked trout on a melba crisp with lime cream cheese and fresh dil, and of course, a fresh Knysna oyster with cucumber salsa, and cream fraiche.
For the start of Seafood Wednesday, the 12th of July, we had locals, friends, and families involved in a fish braai-off. The teams that participated in this year’s fish braai were given a whole Yellowtail and access to our fully stocked dry pantry in order to create a dish solely on the braai for our judges to taste.
Only 650 tickets were available for the Flavours of Knysna. The Flavours of Knynsa is the most anticipated event of the festival. Local restaurants showcased their version of the Knysna oyster, and ticket holders were able to taste each restaurants’ version of the Knysna oyster. Only 650 tickets were available for Flavours, and if you were lucky enough to get your hands on one, you would have enjoyed a fantastic evening of Heinz and I&J sponsored canapés, wine, and bubbly.
On the same evening, 2 of our Source team members participated in the Oyster Shucking Competition. After shucking and eating 14 oysters in 1 minute, Jono and Jaryd came out on top, and took home the prize. All-in-all the evening and the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival was a success!
