Pesce Azzuro, meaning, “blue fish” is what caught my eye when driving past the ever – changing Roodebloem Rd restaurant site. Painted in bright blue, this restaurant façade seemed to change monthly with restaurants that couldn’t quite make it. But this bright blue Italian seafood restaurant seemed to be packed from day one. Being a true seafood lover I had to give it a try! Run by Andrea from Tuscany and Giuseppe from Sicily, this little restaurant shouts authentic Italian! The atmosphere is cozy and friendly and the service relaxed and welcoming. It was the food that really stood out for me. They offer an extensive tapas menu and a small al a Carte menu. There are quite a few non – seafood dishes as well on the menu. I had the tapas tasting starter, which consisted of small taster portions of 5 different tapas of the day. Tuna belly, grilled sardines and baby squid; all absolutely delicious and my wife had the tuna tartare. Simple uncomplicated flavours in well executed dishes. For mains we had the mussels and seafood spaghetti. Both were fresh and delicious. I left feeling so happy that evening for a few reasons. I love finding a new great restaurant, secondly finding a true seafood restaurant outside of the tourist trap of the Waterfront and thirdly that this restaurant will not be closing down any time soon! A real find!
