We love cooking (obviously), and think that for Valentine’s Day, (or any special day) a home cooked meal certainly trumps a restaurant reservation. Here is our suggestion for a great (and simple) Valentine’s Day menu with a few cheats.
Starter: Hot smoked salmon with avo, cucumber ribbons and wasabi mayo (to make wasabi mayo, buy good quality mayo and squeeze in half a tube of ready prepared wasabi and a squeeze of lime)
Main: Seared rib eye with roast garlic potatoes and fresh spinach salad (buy the microwave in the bag garlic butter new potatoes from Woolies, take them out of the bag, cut into wedges and pop into a roasting tray with the garlic butter and loads of salt and olive oil. Makes the best roast potatoes.
Dessert: Buy a Nomu chocolate fondant baking kit, and cook to package instructions. Top with loads of fresh raspberries and blackberries. Dust with icing sugar if you are feeling jazzy!
