Source Food is an event management company in Cape Town for corporate and brand events. One team handles the concept, the venue, décor and lighting, entertainment and AV, and runs the event on the day. Our own chefs write the menu, so food and event are planned together rather than handed between suppliers. We have teams in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and we work with companies only, not weddings or private parties.

The events menu

Year-end functions

A full concept, venue and entertainment package for staff and clients. See our year-end function ideas for Cape Town teams.

Product reveals and media events

Launches where the food and the setting show off what is new.

Client and brand hospitality

Christmas events, hospitality tents and client evenings.

Industry events and conferences

Cocktail evenings around large conferences, and catering for gatherings of thousands of delegates.

High teas and celebration days

Smaller, detailed events such as a Women’s Day high tea.

Festivals and public activations

Food and VIP areas across multi-day festivals in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

In-house chefs, one events team

Source Food is a food company first, so the menu is part of the plan from the first meeting, not an add-on booked later. Our chefs, led by Chef Jonathan, cook for every event we cater, for groups of 50 to 2 000 guests.

If your venue has its own kitchen, we can still run the event: for DStv Media Sales the venue supplied the food and drink, and we managed everything else.

We send a proposal for your event, with what is included.

What event management costs

Source Food quotes every event separately, because no two corporate events need the same things. The main things that change the cost are:

  • Guest numbersMore guests means more space, staff, food and seating.
  • VenueHiring a venue costs more than using your own offices or premises.
  • Décor and lightingA full theme with styled spaces costs more than a simple set-up.
  • Entertainment and AVPerformers, sound and screens add to the budget.
  • Food and drinkCanapés, plated dinners and bars are priced very differently.
  • Length of the eventA lunch and an evening that runs late need different staffing.

Send your date and guest count, and we will come back with a priced proposal that lists what is included.

Events we have managed

Three recent Source Food events show what full event management looks like in practice.

Source Food Product Development - DSTV Media Sales

DStv Media Sales year-end celebration

DStv Media Sales asked Source Food to create and run its year-end celebration. We developed the concept, found and booked the venue, arranged the décor and entertainment, and handled production and logistics. The venue provided the food and drink, and we worked with them on the menu so it suited the theme. On the night, our team ran the event and its suppliers so the client could celebrate with its guests.

Events & Catering Mont Blanc High Tea

Montblanc Signature High Tea

For Montblanc’s Women’s Day high tea, our events team found the venue, designed the décor and arranged the entertainment and AV. Our chefs created the high-tea menu, so the food and the setting were planned as one.

Source Food Catering - Mining Indaba

IXM at the Mining Indaba

During the Mining Indaba in Cape Town, IXM hosted a cocktail evening at Grand Africa. Source Food served welcome canapés, roaming canapés, bowl food and late-night snacks, and also styled the venue, set up the lighting and coordinated the evening on the day.

Brands that trust Source Food

Source Food has worked on events for Louis Vuitton, Pick n Pay, Montblanc and DStv Media Sales. Our work includes the Pick n Pay Christmas Reveal at Vergelegen, hospitality tents at the Cape Town MET, food across the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the We Are Africa conference for 4 000 delegates.

Event management in Cape Town and Johannesburg

Source Food has teams in Cape Town and Johannesburg, so events in either city are planned and run by local people. In Cape Town we have worked at venues such as Grand Africa and Vergelegen in Somerset West.

On every event we manage the outside suppliers too, including décor, entertainment and AV, so you deal with one team.

Event management questions

Question: How much does an event management company cost?
Answer: The cost depends on the number of guests, the venue, the décor, entertainment and AV, and the food and drink. Source Food quotes each event separately after reading your brief, and the proposal lists exactly what is included, so you can compare it fairly with other quotes.

Question: How do I choose an event management company in Cape Town?
Answer: Ask to see named events the company has run, not just client logos. Check whether the food is made in-house or subcontracted, who coordinates on the day, and whether the proposal lists what is included. Source Food shares its case studies and cooks with its own chefs.

Question: Can you manage an event if the venue does its own catering?
Answer: Yes. Source Food can run the concept, décor, entertainment, AV and on-the-day coordination while the venue supplies the food and drink. That is how the DStv Media Sales year-end celebration worked.

Question: Do you plan weddings or private parties?
Answer: No. Source Food works with companies and brands only, on events such as year-end functions, launches, client hospitality and conferences.
